Bankot is a town that is located in the coastal regions of the state ofMaharashtra. The town is one of the first places that the British set up residency in the southern areas of the Konkan coast. Bankot is famous for its old fort and this is the primary attraction in the town.
The fort was ruled by Emperor Adil Shah before it was captured by the Portuguese. There is well that is located in the fort and it is supposed to be extremely deep. The entrance of the fort is decorated with many designs and there is a front porch that is situated near the gate where musicians used to perform. The cellar of the fort is located near the entrance of the fort. The fort is primarily in ruins due to lack of use and maintenance. However it is still an interesting place to visit.
One can visit the nearby places of Harihareshwar while visiting the area as well. The beach located nearby is called the Olive Ridley Beach and one can see turtles in certain seasons. A quaint little village called Velas is also located nearby and this is also an interesting place to visit. There is a small historical museum located in the village as well.
